School History

From a bold vision in 1998 to Abuja's most award-winning secondary school.

1998

School Founded

Luminary College opens its doors in Maitama, Abuja, with 120 students and a vision to redefine secondary education in Nigeria.

2002

First WAEC Results

Our inaugural SSS3 class achieves an 89% pass rate β€” setting the standard for academic excellence that defines us to this day.

2008

Campus Expansion

A major campus expansion doubles our capacity, with new science laboratories, a library, and a multi-purpose sports complex.

2013

10,000 Graduates

We celebrate our 10,000th graduate β€” a milestone symbolising the scale of our impact on families and communities across Nigeria.

2018

25th Anniversary

Luminary College marks 25 years with a gala and the launch of the STEM Innovation Centre, co-funded by alumni and the FCT government.

2021

Digital Learning Launch

We become the first secondary school in FCT to fully integrate a digital learning platform across all classes and subjects.

2024

98% WAEC Pass Rate

Our Class of 2024 achieves a historic 98% WAEC pass rate β€” the highest in the school's history and the FCT.

Principal

School Administration

Dr. Adaeze Okonkwo holds a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Abuja and has led Luminary College for over 12 years. Under her leadership, the school has won multiple national awards and achieved consistently outstanding WAEC results.

Mr. Emmanuel Adeyemi

Vice Principal (Academics)

Mathematics

Mr. Adeyemi is a distinguished mathematician with 18 years of teaching experience. He oversees the academic curriculum and has introduced innovative teaching methodologies that have raised student performance significantly.

Mrs. Chidinma Eze

Mrs. Chidinma Eze

Chemistry

Mrs. Eze is a passionate Chemistry educator who has guided numerous students to university-level science programmes. She leads the Sciences department with a focus on laboratory-based learning and practical application.

Mr. Taiwo Babatunde

Literature in English

A celebrated literary scholar and published author, Mr. Babatunde brings literature to life in his classroom. He has led the Arts department to numerous debate and essay competition victories at the national level.

Mrs. Ngozi Okafor

Economics

With a background in banking and finance, Mrs. Okafor brings real-world business acumen to the classroom. Her department consistently produces students who excel in JAMB economics and secure placements at top Nigerian universities.

Mr. Segun Falola

Physical & Health Education

A former national-level athlete, Mr. Falola has built one of the most competitive sports programmes among secondary schools in Abuja. His teams have won FCT inter-school championships in football, athletics, and basketball.

Miss. Amaka Nwosu

Computer Science

Miss Nwosu is a certified software developer and educator who leads the school's technology initiatives. She established the school's coding club, which has produced award-winning young developers at the state and national levels.
